Today I got some news that made me sad. In life, if we are lucky and sensitive enough we notice that someone very special has just walked into our lives. They have a deep and permanent affect on us, so deep they light up our very souls. In my experience they are always enigmatic, quiet, unassuming, accepting, gentle, and when they have to be, startlingly strong. They have suffered time and again personal hardships that would beat most people into surrender, but not them, they just get up again. They walk their talk! I feel so blessed to have met Tim Field. I wish I had known him better. I could have too. We met a couple of times and communicated by email. He was a very encouraging supporter of what I was attempting to do, especially with Oxford Talks, and he urged me to continue. Tim attended the first two conferences and enthused about them. Although he kept this part of his life private he told me that he was a Star Kid, and he was, I have not a shadow of a doubt about it. He particularly resonated to a page of words that Tracey Taylor had written in Mary Rodwell's book,"Awakening".
He poured every ounce of himself into completing his mission. He stared defiantly and deeply into the jaws of the judicial and government dragons and he emerged the victor. It is impossible to count the number of people Tim helped in their personal battles against harrassment and bullying, they are so many. Tim you are a shining star and an inspiration mate, and it has been an absolute privilege to have known you. You have shown that even though we think we have given everything we can still give more. I'm going to do what we both know I should...the Oxford Talks will be starting up again this year. It is the least I can do.
There are so many who will miss you. Until we meet again... on behalf of the humanity you cared so deeply for, thank you for coming.
