"The system that Australia has approved is the AEGIS ship-based anti-ballistic missile system, which is reportedly costing Australia 1/3 of its defence budget.
ABM systems are in fact nuclear first-strike systems, as they can be used as ASATs (anti-satellite weapons) to knock out the adversary's early warning satellite-based sensors and facilitate a nuclear first strike, and hence nuclear war.
