GARGOYLES AT MERTON
These collosal stone gargoyles peer out from the roof of Merton Chapel on to cobble-stoned Merton Street. Merton College is one of the most ancient in Oxford but these gargoyles are modern. They were carved in 1987to replace their predecessors which had succumbed to the weather and pollution.
